New Car PDI vs Used Car Inspection: What to Book
Book new-car PDI for an allocated new vehicle before accepting delivery. Book a used-car inspection for a pre-owned vehicle before deciding to buy. The checks overlap, but delivery condition and prior use raise different questions. If the car is a demonstrator, previously registered or unusually described, explain that before selecting a package.
Before you decide
- A low odometer reading does not, on its own, decide which inspection fits the vehicle.
- Match the service to the vehicle's actual status, available access and the decision you need to make.
- Read the selected package and report limitations; neither service guarantees future reliability.
The practical difference at a glance
The simplest distinction is the question you want answered. With a new car, you want to understand the condition of the specific allocated vehicle before the handover. With a used car, you want a record of its observed condition to help evaluate a purchase after someone else has owned or used it. Neither question is answered by a brochure photograph or a seller saying that everything is fine.
These are service-category comparisons written by InspecXO, an inspection provider. They are not a ranking of other businesses. The descriptions of our own service follow our published catalogue; another provider may use different names or include different checks. Always compare the written scope before treating two similarly named packages as equivalent.
| Question | New-car PDI | Used-car inspection |
|---|---|---|
| Main decision | Accept delivery or ask about an issue first | Proceed, clarify findings or investigate further before buying |
| Starting point | Allocated new vehicle and dealer access | Specific pre-owned car, seller permission and available records |
| Useful evidence | Identity, condition, fit-and-finish and available feature checks | Condition, wear, equipment and mechanical or EV observations within scope |
| Does it replace a warranty? | No | No |
| If something is inaccessible | Record the limit; do not assume it passed | Record the limit; arrange further assessment if important |
When new-car PDI is the appropriate request
For a new vehicle, first establish that a particular car has been allocated to you. Ask the dealer which vehicle will be made available, where it will be kept and when it can be accessed. An appointment against only a model name is incomplete: the inspection concerns one vehicle, not the general reputation of that model. Keep the identity details and allocation information together so that the record can be understood later.
InspecXO's new-car packages list identity confirmation, exterior and interior checks, AC and electrical feature checks, powertrain or EV-system observations, wheels and tyres, applicable photos and a digital report. Additional observations depend on the selected package. This is a description of published scope, not a promise that every item can be assessed at every location. Ask about limitations before the appointment if the dealer has restrictions.
Allow time to read and discuss findings before the decision you are trying to protect. Coordinate inspection timing, payment arrangements and handover directly with the dealer; do not assume that booking an inspection changes the dealer's process or creates a guaranteed right to a particular inspection slot.
When a used-car inspection is the better fit
A pre-owned inspection starts with the individual car being offered for sale. Share its model, fuel type, seller location and any concerns you already have. A listing that says single owner, low kilometres or excellent condition gives you questions to verify; it does not turn the car into a new vehicle. Arrange permission with the person who controls access, even if a broker or platform introduced you to the seller.
Our pre-owned catalogue covers observed exterior, interior, AC, electrical, powertrain, steering, suspension, wheel and tyre condition, with evidence and digital reporting as applicable. Underbody and road-test observations are package- and access-dependent. A visit is not engine dismantling, an exhaustive repair investigation or proof of a complete ownership history. If you need a specific diagnostic result, ask whether a suitably equipped workshop is also required.
Provide records the seller has agreed to share, but keep document claims distinct from physical findings. An inspection can help you formulate questions about a mismatch or missing information. It should not be interpreted as a substitute for independently verifying ownership, transaction documents, finance obligations or other matters outside the purchased service.
What about demo cars, display cars and nearly new cars?
Do not force an ambiguous vehicle into the cheapest category. Tell the coordinator whether the seller describes it as a demonstrator, display vehicle, previously registered vehicle or unused old stock. Share what you know and what remains uncertain. The right next step is to clarify the status and required scope, not to assume that a clean appearance or small odometer number settles the question.
For example, you might be offered a dealer demonstration vehicle while shopping for a new car. Your concern could include both presentation at handover and the effects of prior use. Ask the seller to state the vehicle's status in the transaction records, then ask the inspection provider which service fits. This example is a planning scenario, not an InspecXO customer case or a claim that every demonstration vehicle has a problem.
If the information changes after booking, contact the coordinator before the visit. A change from a new allocation to a different pre-owned car can affect the required service and preparation. Keep the final vehicle identity, location and selected package aligned instead of relying on an earlier conversation about another car.
Arrange access before comparing checklist lengths
Both services depend on practical access. Confirm who has the keys, where the car will be parked, whether there is suitable light and space, and what the seller permits. Explain any restrictions on photographs, starting the vehicle, equipment or a road test. A long advertised checklist is less useful if important checks cannot be attempted at the site and the report does not make that clear.
A road test is not automatic. It depends on the package, permission, suitable conditions and the assessor's judgment. Do not arrange an unsafe test merely to fill a checklist item. If an important observation cannot be made, ask how that limitation will appear in the report and what appropriate follow-up would answer your concern. A blank or unassessed item must not be mentally converted into a pass.
If you cannot attend, agree who will coordinate access and who will receive questions. A remote booking still needs a real vehicle and an available contact. Avoid promising the seller an exact finish time before the inspection team has confirmed arrangements.
Booking across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Choose the location of the car, not the address from which you are shopping. A buyer in Guntur could be considering a car kept in Vijayawada; a buyer in Khammam could be looking at a Hyderabad listing. In each case, confirm the actual vehicle pin rather than treating the buyer's home city or the advertisement's broad location as the inspection address. These examples do not guarantee a slot or travel coverage.
Use our Andhra Pradesh and Telangana guides to reach the currently active city pages. If a city is not listed, send an availability enquiry with the vehicle details. Do not select a nearby supported city to bypass the coverage question. A request for a Rajahmundry, Kakinada or Karimnagar vehicle needs its own location confirmation; a regional guide is not a claim that every town is served.
Keep any travel plans separate from the appointment until the relevant parties confirm access. If the seller moves the car to a different yard, tell the coordinator. An inspection arranged for one address should not silently become a request at another address on the same day.
How to compare cost without buying the wrong scope
Start with the correct service, then the vehicle category and the written inclusions. Current InspecXO prices are on the pricing page so that this guide does not become a second, conflicting price list. Ask about the selected vehicle and address if anything is unclear. Do not assume that the word premium means a warranty, battery certification, unlimited diagnostics or an included repeat visit.
When comparing quotations, write down the deliverable: what is checked, what evidence is provided, how restrictions are reported and which questions can be answered after the visit. A price difference may reflect a genuine difference in scope or simply a different commercial offer. It is not evidence, by itself, that the more expensive service finds every issue or that the less expensive one is inadequate.
Avoid paying for a service category that cannot answer your main question. If your concern is a specific internal mechanical fault, a general inspection may identify the need for further diagnosis without resolving it. Clarifying this before booking is more useful than counting checkpoints after the inspection.

Use the report to decide what happens next
Read the recorded observations together with photos, explanatory notes and access limitations. Separate an observed issue from a question that remains open. For a new car, ask the dealer to explain any proposed correction before accepting it. For a used car, decide which questions require seller records or workshop diagnosis before proceeding. A report supports your decision; it does not make the transaction decision for you.
Save the vehicle identity, report date and any written follow-up with the record. If a different vehicle is substituted, the earlier inspection is not evidence of the replacement car's condition. If work is carried out after the inspection, ask what evidence or further assessment is appropriate rather than assuming the previous findings automatically describe the repaired condition.
Before submitting a booking request, check four things: the service matches the vehicle, the address is accurate, access has been discussed and you understand the package. That preparation makes the resulting report easier to use, whether you are collecting a new car locally or evaluating a pre-owned car from another city.
